Thinking About Becoming a Pet Owner? Here’s Three Reasons Why You Should Rescue

September 4, 2020 | We Care | Tips from Isabella Sansone

When you make the decision to become a dog owner, you are probably making one of the best decisions of your life!  When choosing to own a dog, you are choosing to positively impact your life by gaining a priceless bond, and you will find yourself wondering how you ever lived without a four-legged, furry friend.

When a perspective dog owner finally decides to take the next step in the process which is identifying where you will get the dog from, they must take into consideration what their options are. Quite often, people who consider becoming dog owners forget that adopting is an option. Adopting a dog has more benefits than one might think. Check out these three reasons why!

“When choosing to own a dog, you are choosing to positively impact your life by gaining a priceless bond, and you will find yourself wondering how you ever lived without a four-legged, furry friend!”

  • Adopting Costs Less
The first thing that usually comes to mind when becoming a pet owner is the cost. Buying from breeders can be pricey and not always reliable, not to mention when purchasing from a breeder you are responsible for getting your dog vaccinated. When adopting a rescue, vaccinations have already been administered.
  • You are Saving a Life
“Each year, 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States, simply because too many pets come into shelters and too few people consider adoption when looking for a pet.”- Humane Society
By adopting a dog instead of buying from a breeder, you are truly saving a life. These dogs will spend their life in a shelter if they are not adopted, or even euthanized. Knowing that you are saving a life and gaining a companion is a priceless reward!
  • The Money You are Spending Will Be Put to Good Use
The money that you pay when adopting any dog of your choice in a shelter (many dogs are already housebroken which is a free bonus) goes towards the shelter!  They use your funds to continue caring for other dogs who are waiting to be adopted, rather than your money funding a puppy mill or pet store where the dogs could be living in poor conditions and the money is not funding the care of the animals.

If you are thinking about becoming a dog owner, or know someone who is, remember that adopting is an extremely rewarding and cost effective way to gain a friendly (and furry) companion!
